The Four Chambers · Heart

Does the right ventricle pump the same amount as the left?

Pumps oxygen-poor blood on the short trip to the lungs.

The simple answer

The lower right chamber of your heart pushes oxygen-poor blood to your lungs. It's a short trip, so this pump — the right ventricle — doesn't need to be very strong.

Go deeper

Blood drops in from the right atrium through the tricuspid valve, then gets pumped out through the pulmonary valve into the pulmonary artery, headed for the lungs to pick up oxygen.
